Worked with Somerset Waste Partnership to develop a variation of Bristol Waste Company’s ‘Slim My Waste’ campaign to over 250,000 households in Somerset between February and May 2020 with the aim of:

  • Raising awareness of the benefits of food waste recycling and encouraging participation, especially amongst lapsed and non-users.

  • Increasing capture by encouraging householders to use their food waste bins and kitchen caddy by decorating them with face stickers to reflect their householder personality.

Worked alongside the Partnership’s new contractor Suez, to develop the communications and engagement strategy to support the rollout of the new waste and recycling services (over a two-year phased period 2020 - 2022) which includes:

  • Introducing three weekly collections.

  • Expanding the existing recycling collection to accept plastic pots, tubs and trays, household batteries and small electricals.

  • Expansion of recycling for schools and communal properties.

SWP’s current recycling rate is 52% (2018/19) which it aims to increase to 60% by 2023 as a result of the service changes.

Sadly, the Slim My Waste campaign had to be put on hold because of the Coronavirus pandemic. The full impact won’t be known for some time, but the first few weeks saw food recycling jump by around 30%.
